Bicycle Film Festival Poster - 2007

The best film festival of the year is coming up this weekend.

bARTer'd for an onion

This is what I got at the end of the bARTer evening. It's now appropriately hanging in my kitchen. I dig it. Painted by Coquille.

Budding Communism

This here is a Taiwanese hot pepper sprouting in a tin communist propaganda cigarette box. The piece, entitled "Budding Communism" was created for the first bARTer event.

Bids for "Budding Communism"

Here's how it went down for the auction of "Budding Communism" piece I created.

Superheroes at Jamba Juice

I'm not sure what this was all about, but it doesn't make me want to buy more Jamba Juice if it was a PR move. Unlikely to be an Imrpov Everywhere mission with the full-on costumes. Any guesses?

Arcade Fire @ United Palace

Quite possibly the best show ever. We were as close as you can get to the stage. And then, we were on the stage. Videos and more photos to follow.

Old School: My first live Arcade Fire experience was when I saw them play at Stubb's in Austin, TX in 2005. They were something special then, but they've gone done it now.

Seen in Carroll Gardens, it reads: "Hi Geoff, can I live under your coat?"

Harvest (sm)

Applying for a service mark can be a long, slow process--but if your application gets approved, you'd get an official-looking document like this one we got for Harvest.

WATERCOOLER Mindful Displays for Business

In the latest issue of Fortune magazine, the cover story takes a look at how Bloomberg LP operates. The company aligns its employees on its business goals through prominent displays of sales metrics placed around the office:

There are close to 9,400 employees at Bloomberg, and all would cheer that analyst’s fidelity to the product. That’s because the company has a highly unusual compensation system that ties employee pay directly to the sale of terminals – or more precisely, to net installations, or “net installs.”

The concept behind this system is that everyone at the company should be driving toward only one goal: selling more Bloombergs. To underscore that point, large electronic signs hanging from the ceilings in the Bloomberg offices report progress on both sales and installations. Bells ring to mark a sale – multiple times if the news justifies it.

These displays, while very simple, help keep everyone in the office aware of the company’s overall performance and how they might be contributing to the company’s overall growth.

Knowing your numbers, and sharing some of those numbers with your employees, is a good motivator for everyone. So whether for your business it’s users, subscriptions, units sold, or page views, setting up a big display to share within the company can be fun and rewarding. Here at the studio, we’ll be setting up an always-on display to keep us mindful of our Harvest numbers.
