We didn’t see a dime from the bailout. The economy still seems to get worse by the day. So let’s try something else. With the help of Benjamin Franklin, we are proud to announce the Iridesco Stimulus Package. Wise Ben once said “an investment in knowledge pays the best interest.” That’s exactly what we’d like to do: we’re investing in your knowledge to help small businesses and individuals navigate this economic downturn.
The Iridesco Stimulus Package: Out of Many Ideas, One Hundred Dollars. We ask a question. You contribute an idea. We will round-up the best answers on the Iridesco Watercooler and let you, the voting public, decide who deserves to receive $100 for their thoughts. We’ll spread the best ideas to help businesses work smarter and the winning contributor will receive $100 from us to stimulate the economy. It’s smiles all around. Let’s get started with this first edition of our stimulus package:
Question for employers: While conserving cash, what grand gestures can you offer your loyal employees for the holidays?
Question for employees: Recognizing that it’s not the time to splurge, what can your boss do to make you feel warm and fuzzy this holiday season?
Post your answers in the comments below!
[Full Disclosure: The Iridesco Stimulus Package is not endorsed by Hank Paulson or Benjamin Franklin. It is endorsed by your friends at Iridesco who believe a little money can go a long way.] »

A better title for this piece would’ve been "A Funny and Insightful Essay by the guy who wrote The Godfather book."
The reason I wrote The Godfather was to make money. My first novel, The Dark Arena (1955), received very good reviews and netted me $3,500, so I thought I was going to be rich and famous. But when my second novel, The Fortunate Pilgrim, came out ten years later and netted me just $3,000, I was going downhill fast.
This is fascinating and it’s just one of the many documentaries produced the National Film Board of Canada. I wonder what the U.S. equivalent of the NFB is, if one even exists.

I don't usually read the obituaries, but while scanning the front page the NY Times, the title caught my attention. And an interesting read it is.
His amnesia did not damage his intellect or radically change his personality. But he could not hold a job and lived, more so than any mystic, in the moment.

I drink coffee occasionally on the weekends and often when I'm out of the country (and in that vacation mode). An everyday caffeine habit just isn't for me. Regardless, I can appreciate Christoph Niemann's illustrated napkins storytelling.

The nice people at Tourneau Times recently interviewed us about our World Clock Project. We talked about the motivation behind the project, our plans for it, and of course about the beautiful clocks submitted by the project’s contributors . Pick up an issue (for free, I believe) at your nearest Tourneau store. »

Worksman Cycles, founded in 1898, makes heavy duty bikes and trikes. The family-run business sells its bikes to food vendors, pizzerias in need of delivery bikes, and Fortune 500 companies’ factory floors. As manufacturing businesses seek to save fuel costs, the industrial bikes provide a perfect solution for moving around heavy tools and parts. And next time you see a hot dog vendor on the street, don’t be surprised if it’s a Worksman Cycles trike.

Happy people spend a lot of time socializing, going to church and reading newspapers — but they don’t spend a lot of time watching television, a new study finds.
No, really?
At a glance, one may pass this off as just another photo of somewhere in Times Square during the 80s. To get the full effect, you will have to see this in person as it’s actually a minature model that’s no bigger than say a couple shoeboxes stacked together. The artist, Alan Wolfson, creates incredibly detailed dioramas of urban scenes, and you can catch him and his work this coming Saturday (Nov 22) at the OK Harris gallery in Soho, NYC. It’s a small example of incredible attention to detail. »
